Castaways: Dinner for Two

As time passes, local cuisine changes. New restaurants come and go as tastes and sensibilities alter but there’s always a reliable, unmoving restaurant that holds down the community and serves up stick-to-your-ribs home style meals that never let you down. It’s all the better when they have a good bar. In Ocean Springs there is such an establishment known as Castaways, a welcome familiarity along the sometimes changing scenery of Highway 90.

While on a pleasant outing with my spouse as we looked for ways to eschew the heat of a balmy Mississippi August evening, we entered this establishment with hunger denoted deeply in mind and stomach- and I with a thirst upon my lips. We were greeted amicably by a friendly faced bartender, who told us to sit where we please. Taking a cozy seat near the bar we took in the scenery for a moment, before promptly being asked our drink preferences and given the daily specials. The specials that day included royal red shrimp and gator bites, a delicious kind of alligator meat filled hush puppy. We opted immediately for an order of the later to serve as an appetizer to our meal.
