Jacked Up Coffee Bar: A Biloxi Favorite Brewed with Heart

Owner Dixie Newman has built more than a coffee shop.. She’s created a welcoming space where community, creativity, and great food come together.

Along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, coffee shops often become more than just a place to grab a morning pick-me-up. They become gathering spots where people meet friends, catch up on work, or slow down for a quiet moment. In Biloxi, Jacked Up Coffee Bar has become one of those places.

Owned by Dixie Newman, the lively coffee shop blends bold flavors, comforting food, and a welcoming atmosphere that keeps both locals and visitors coming back. From the moment you walk in, the space feels relaxed and inviting. Customers sip coffee while working on laptops, friends gather for brunch, and couples enjoy breakfast together.

The friendly staff add to that experience, greeting guests warmly and happily helping them navigate the menu. Their knowledge and enthusiasm make it clear that everyone working there takes pride in what they do.

Newman herself is a big part of the personality behind the shop. Always stylish and full of energy, she brings a vibrant presence to the café. In my opinion, she’s a bit of a diva in the best way always dressed beautifully with her hair and makeup looking flawless. It’s clear she takes pride not only in her business but also in the overall experience she creates for her guests.

Ironically, Newman jokes that she isn’t exactly a morning person.

“It’s funny because I’m not really a morning person,” she said with a laugh. “But I run an early morning coffee shop, so you’ll always find me in here drinking coffee trying to get going.”

Despite the early mornings, Newman has poured her heart into building the business. Much of the inspiration behind the food comes from someone very important in her life her mother.

“If it wasn’t for my mom, I don’t know where the shop would be,” Newman shared.

After Hurricane Zeta, the shop experienced an overwhelming wave of support from the community, bringing in large numbers of customers and to-go orders. While the rush was intense, Newman’s mother stepped in to help keep everything running smoothly. Newman credits her mother’s influence not only for the help during busy times but also for her recipes and cooking skills, many of which shine in the menu today. Her brother is often in the kitchen, cooking alongside Dixie and the team, adding to the family energy that makes every dish feel homemade.

That love for food and family is reflected throughout the menu. During our visit, we had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes, and it quickly became clear that a lot of thought and care goes into everything that comes out of the kitchen.

One of my personal favorites was the Sausage Gravy Monkey Bread, packed with flavor and perfectly paired with the rich sausage gravy. For something sweet, the Strawberry Shortcake Monkey Bread offered a soft, pull-apart bread with fresh strawberry compote a perfect blend of breakfast and dessert.

The Simply Breakfast plate offered two eggs, crispy hashbrowns, beef bacon or chicken sausage, and homemade grits. One thing that sets Jacked Up Coffee Bar apart is that they do not serve pork, making the menu inclusive for all guests. The grits were creamy, rich, and full of flavor.

Another standout was the Loaded Avocado Toast. Even as someone who typically doesn’t love avocado, this one completely won me over. Layered with avocado, cream cheese, feta, diced tomatoes, and topped with crispy beef bacon, it’s a combination that works perfectly in every bite.

Other highlights included Belgian waffles, the Spicy Honey Chicken Biscuit with eggs, the indulgent Jacked Up BLT (stacked with chicken strips, cheese, eggs, and comeback sauce), and the Kickin’ Buffalo Chicken Sandwich on a pretzel bun. We also tried an Apple Strudel Muffin, a product of a friendly competition among employees to see who can make the best muffin. You could taste the love and a little bit of that rivalry in every bite.

Of course, no visit to Jacked Up Coffee Bar is complete without trying their coffee  and this is where the shop really stands out. Their most popular drink, the NOLA Iced Coffee, is a 24-hour cold brew from French Truck blended with organic whole milk and simple syrup. Smooth, creamy, and unlike anything else on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, it’s a local specialty you won’t find anywhere else.

For something indulgent, the Caramel Icechino stole my heart. Made with a double shot of espresso, ice cream, milk, and your choice of toppings, it’s a frozen coffee treat that tastes more like dessert than your standard cup of joe and quickly became my personal favorite.

Coffee lovers who enjoy a bolder flavor can try the Oji Drip Iced Coffee, a Japanese-style slow-drip coffee brewed for 24 hours. Served over ice and meant to be enjoyed black, it’s intense, robust, and perfect for anyone who wants their coffee strong.

And for those who want a little fun in their cup, the Cotton Candy Coffee adds a playful twist with steamed milk, a ball of cotton candy, espresso poured on top, and finished with whipped cream and sprinkles.

What really sets Jacked Up Coffee Bar apart is their “Jacked Up Coffee” experience, which allows you to add alcohol to your coffee drinks. From flavored liqueurs to classic spirits, you can turn your favorite brew into a cocktail, giving an extra kick for those looking to try something different  perfect for brunch or a casual celebration. One of Newman’s personal favorites is the Dirty Sexy Cocktail Coffee, and she let me try it myself. Rich espresso combined with a carefully chosen liqueur makes for a bold, indulgent drink that perfectly represents the playful, creative vibe of the café.

They feature seasonal menu items, with rotating flavors and specialty drinks that celebrate holidays, fresh ingredients, and unique combinations. It’s another way the shop keeps the menu exciting, encouraging guests to try something new with each visit.

Whether you prefer smooth and sweet, bold and strong, or a little boozy, Jacked Up Coffee Bar offers something for every coffee lover and it’s easy to see why people return day after day for their favorite sip.

Like many businesses, Jacked Up Coffee Bar faced uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“COVID was actually a blessing in disguise for us,” Newman explained.

The shop leaned heavily into to-go orders, continuing to serve the community even while many people stayed home. That demand remains strong to this day.

Beyond the food and coffee, Newman enjoys seeing the stories that happen inside the café. One couple met there for their first coffee date and returned years later, married, to celebrate the milestone. Moments like that are what make the café truly special.

Jacked Up Coffee Bar offers a relaxed environment where guests can grab a quick drink, sit down with a laptop, meet friends for brunch, or enjoy a casual date. The café is open Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed on Saturdays. They also offer gluten-free bread, making the menu accessible for even more guests.

For locals and visitors exploring the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jacked Up Coffee Bar offers more than just a good cup of coffee. It’s a place filled with personality, creativity, and the kind of welcoming atmosphere that keeps people coming back.

For owner Dixie Newman, Jacked Up Coffee Bar isn’t just a place to grab a coffee, it’s something she has poured her heart into. From the welcoming staff to the creative menu and the loyal customers who walk through the doors each day, the shop has become much more than a café.

It’s a place where friends meet, work gets done, brunch dates happen, and sometimes even where love stories begin. On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where community means everything, Jacked Up Coffee Bar has become a space where people gather, stories are shared, and connections are made all over a great cup of coffee. And for Newman, that’s what makes every early morning worth it.
