A FRENCH KISS IN BILOXI: THE PARISIAN CHARM OF BREWPADDLE CAFE

I am so thrilled to be relaying to our readers our fabulous experience at the BrewPaddle Cafe!

Downtown Biloxi hosts a new boutique hotel, The Bella, formerly Wells Fargo Bank on the corner of Reynoir and Howard Ave. The rooms each have a balcony overlooking the parade route, while the two entrances lead you to the sweetest little Parisian Café. The front entrance has a poster of Leonardo DiCaprio greeting you with a glass of champagne, (from the movie the Great Gatsby) along with other great celebs leading through the small yet elegant foyer to the BrewPaddle Café. The black and white tile floors set the atmosphere with table or countertop dining available. There is also a private or larger party area called The Vault, which is literally the former bank vault, with a mural of headlines from hurricane Katrina. The rear entrance has patio dining for days of sunshine with two notable murals by CaliRob. The smell of the fresh baked artisan breads and pastries, along with specialty coffees and teas brewing is intoxicating.

Open from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday, the breakfast and lunch menu makes for a difficult decision because everything sounds so scrumptious!

The husband & wife owners of this little gem are Scott and Rachel Plauche. Scott is executing his culinary arts, baking and pastry degrees superbly. Wanting quality family time he opted for the early dining hours and has mastered some very fine, high quality menu items. Rachel does an excellent job with the front of the house, so the couple are making a fine team indeed! As we salivated over the fresh baked goods, we chose an array of breakfast and lunch items, like we do, and enjoyed a cappuccino for myself while Cheli sipped on a café au lait. Many brews are offered from espresso to chai tea, with your choice of creams, flavors, and extra shots of espresso. They also offer juices and several other drink choices. You can also purchase champagne or beer if you are wanting to kick it up a notch!

We began with BrewPaddle Breads – an assortment of sourdough and focaccia served with salted whipped butter and housemade jam, which varies depending on what fresh fruit Chef Scott has that week. The breads were mouth-watering as were the accompaniments. We also had the Biscuit and Gravy – a giant flaky house made biscuit topped with the best sausage gravy I’ve experienced anywhere outside of my kitchen! That is correct, Scott makes gravy the way you really love it! We also loved the Mediterranean Tartine – sourdough bread topped with house made hummus and tzatziki, cucumber, heirloom tomatoes, fried chick peas and fresh dill. This was as wonderful as it sounds, with an Avocado Tartine and Mushroom Tartine offered as well. The small plate menu also offers lox, roasted beets, caesar salad, and deviled eggs with caviar.

Cheli and Rachel really had to convince me to try the Omelet, and yes indeed, this was by far the best egg adventure I’ve conceded to! (It’s a texture thing, I only eat scrambled eggs, until they flipped me, lol!) The French rolled omelet is cooked expertly over low heat slowly, then rolled, like a crepe. We had sausage, mushroom and boursin, dressed with chives. Oh my, I am converted, and can’t wait to do that thang again! It reminded me so much of pasta as I ate it, I do believe we have a new low carb substitute, no matter, it was outstanding! They also offer a Breakfast Plate – eggs your way, grits, bacon, ham or sausage and a big ole flaky biscuit, a breakfast sandwich – egg, bacon, ham or sausage with cheddar on sourdough bread, and pancakes – with lemon zest, vanilla, sweet whipped ricotta, fresh berries and maple syrup.

For some of their lunch options, they offer Corned Beef Hash – housemade corned beef with crispy potatoes, pickled peppers, onions, hollandaise, and a sunny side up egg and a Croque Madame – house brioche, black forest ham, gruyere cheese, sunny egg, and mornay sauce. We very much loved the BrewPaddle Burger – house brioche bun, double patty smash burger, American cheese, pickles, onion, lettuce, tomato and garlic aioli served with fries. Now, that was a burger to be nominated as the best burger, and the fries were perfection!

Everything possible is made in house with daily deliveries from the nearest and freshest farms. Scott takes pride in his flavor profiles and his talents bring to us some wonderful palate pleasers! You can pick up fresh breads and pastries, or call in advance for specialty items. What a great little place for an excellent Parisian style experience! Close to casino row, downtown Biloxi and convenient to all for any occasion, BrewPaddle is a must try for your itinerary!
