Adventures Pub and Spirits: Serving the coast for over 30 years.

It is time to let the fun begin at Adventures Pub & Spirits!  A long time favorite of Cheli and I, we first became regulars when we were cocktailing at Casino Magic.  Originally located next to The Upstairs Downstairs at the Vieux Marche, the venue relocated to a much more spacious building on Lameuse St., downtown Biloxi.  Always a cool place to meet your friends, in the olden days they drew a large crowd from all the casinos, being one of the only 24-hour options for good food and tasty beverages.  Home of the “Porky Pig”, half of a smashing club made from quality deli meats and cheddar cheese, shift drink specials and a social group of industry people gathering for their break from the hectic hours of serving others’ needs.  The newer location still meets the needs of service industry workers as well as local peeps and tourists.  The well- rounded menu is sure to have something to please everyone no matter their nourishment requirements, and the fully stocked bar offers ample adult beverage selections.  Owners Greg and Sue made an excellent choice moving into this old downtown Biloxi building in the heart of the area.  This cool and hip pub always conjures memories of younger days, and I still see familiar faces from decades ago every time I go.  Winner of numerous Covey Awards, our girl Kristen Crosslin set us up for another spectacular adventure with Joelle, our server and bartender.

Joelle started me off with a smooth Penelope Bourbon Toasted, distilled in the state of Mississippi by the Cathead distillery, served over ice and sipped slowly, I really enjoyed this bourbon.  It paired nicely with the amazing fresh catch Louisiana oysters we devoured.  We ordered the Chargrilled Trio with four Chargrilled – garlic butter and parmesan, four New Orleans style BBQ – spectacular secret spices, and four Artichoke and Bacon – piled high with a rich creamy melted cheese. I honestly loved these fresh oysters all three ways and can not wait to do it again!  We also had a cup of Homemade Chicken and Andouille Sausage Gumbo that went well with the ½ lb. of deepwater Argentina Royal Reds – seasoned perfectly and served with corn on the cob, new potatoes and garlic butter.  They also offer a Seafood Platter, Shrimp Alfredo, Filet of Fish – blackened or deep fried, and the Yellowfin Tuna Plate – chargrilled.  These items are from the seafood selection of customer favorites, and are served with potato or orzo pasta salad, and choice of side salad or steamed broccoli.  Although we had these starters first, we still had to try the newest additions to the Appetizer selection.  The Broccoli Bacon Cheese Bites are lightly breaded and fried with a smooth and creamy inside and a crunchy outside with Ranch dressing for dipping.  These were really tasty and reheated in a cast iron skillet in the oven keeping all the textures true.  The Pig Wings went over well at my house – tender bone-in pork shank, also served with Ranch Dressing, they were very succulent and flavorful, and yes, this is when pigs fly!  Other tempting appetizers include Chicken Wings – naked, plain, mild, medium, or hot or BBQ, Thai Chili or Lemon Pepper, with your choice of blue cheese or ranch dressing for dipping, a sure customer favorite.  Tender fried Calamari, Chicken Tenders, Fried Blue Crab Claws, Cheese Bites made with Wisconsin Cheese Curds, Disco Fries with gravy and cheddar – waffle fries that we did love as a side, Half Dill and Half Jalapeno Chips – deep fried and served with ranch, Loaded Fries – cheddar, bacon, green onions, ranch and sour cream, Super Nachos, Sweet Potato and Idaho Waffle Fries, Fried Green Tomatoes – deep fried and topped with Hollandaise, shrimp and parmesan, Chicken Fries, Chicken Quesadillas, Onion Rings and Artichoke Hearts – battered and deep fried served with honey mustard and topped with parmesan, all of these tasty morsels make for  a very great selection of appetizers that are all masterpieces, a large up-grade from ordinary bar food!

The 10 oz. hand formed burgers melt in your mouth and can be dressed however you wish with some top choices being the Juicy Lucy, the Mind Melter, the Bulls-Eye Baby, Andy’s Hot Jalapeno, the Hippo, The Biloxi, the Messy Mushroom and the Blues Brothers Burger.  We had the Blues Brothers Burger oozing with loads of tangy melted blue cheese, dressed, and a side of that delicious orzo pasta salad with a hint of black olives, chickpeas and sweet peppers. They offer a Waygu Burger as well as a 14 oz. certified angus beef Ribeye Dinner.  We opted for the Ribeye Steak Sandwich – a 10 oz. choice ribeye chargrilled to your preferred doneness, dressed on New Orleans poboy bread,    with a side of beer battered onion rings.  Yes, indeed, this steak sandwich does rival any of the competition, and the char on the steak as well as the burger was really smoky and savory!  The Fire Dog Seasoning is a wonderful blend of spices and “ I ain’t scarred of no spice, lol!”  Of course, we had to do the Porky Pig – a triple decker club with grilled ham, bacon, and cheddar, dressed with a side of your choice.  For the vegetarians we enjoyed a fantastic Portobello Eggplant Stacker – a bun sized portobello cap marinated and chargrilled with eggplant rounds, grilled onions and Swiss cheese dressed and we chose steamed broccoli for the side.  This sandwich was delightful and healthy even if you are a carnivore!  Other awesome sandwich, poboy and wrap choices are the Ultimate Oyster Poboy, Chicken Ham and Bacon Combo, Chicken Sandwich, Roast Beef Poboy, Philly Cheese Steak or Chicken, a Pressed Cuban, the Reuben, a Cheeseburger Poboy, Shrimp or Fish Poboy, a Steak Wrap, a Cajun Chicken Wrap, the Cordon Bleu Wrap, a Chicken or Chicken Caesar Wrap, all with your choice of one side.  They have Jason’s Shrimp Salad, Taco Salad, Chicken Caesar and the Orzo Pasta Salad.  Homemade Pecan Pie, Homemade Bread Pudding and Funnel Cake Fries are your dessert choices.  We had the Funnel Cake Fries topped with powdered sugar along with an Old Soul Bourbon Whiskey over ice that was also made in Mississippi. I’ve learned that a smooth whiskey really does pair well with sweets!  Cheli was losing her mind over these Funnel Cake Fries as she said they reminded her of slivers of beignets!!

If you haven’t been in a while, or have never been to Adventures, I strongly suggest you give it a try.  The food is very consistently delicious, the cooks and the wait staff are extremely friend, and the atmosphere is just fun!  These Covey Award winners have been hard at it for over thirty years and they are darn sure good at it!
