The 2024 Coast Observer Covey Awards show was a night to remember, a celebration of excellence and talent within the local community. Set against the backdrop of the prestigious Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, this year’s Covey Awards dazzled attendees with its opulence and grandeur.
Celebrating 20 Years this year, The Covey Awards began in 2004 as a way to Honor All of the Hard Working Gaming, Service and Entertainment Industries of our Mississippi Gulf Coast!! Having been in business for 5 years in 2004, Coast Observer owner, Cheli Strumila, started to notice that there were all these award ceremonies honoring banks, medical, and every other industry other than the hard working business owners and staffs of casinos, restaurants, bars and local performers. Having been a casino cocktail waitress when she started Coast Observer, she knew firsthand how hard everyone works providing all the fun, excitement, incredible cuisine, the welcome cocktails and awesome performances that help us escape the stresses of day to day life!! So it is for this reason the Coast Observer is Happy to host this special award ceremony to show our hard working casinos, service industry and entertainers how much the coast loves and appreciates them and their staffs for all their hard work 365 days a year 24/7!!
From the moment guests arrived, they were enveloped in an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. The red carpet was alight as hosts and guests made their grand entrances, adorned in their finest attire. Sponsors such as Allen Beverages – Pepsi, Mitchell Distributing – Budweiser, Bud Light, and Michelob Ultra, Coastal Mississippi, and Community Bank lent their support, ensuring that every detail of the evening was executed flawlessly.
The evening’s entertainment was nothing short of spectacular, with live performances from some of South Mississippi’s most talented musical acts. Bands like Triggerproof, CastorTroy, Starz Band, and Gram Rea took to the stage, captivating the audience with their electrifying performances and infectious energy. DJ Shimmer kept the party alive between sets, expertly blending tracks and guiding the night with finesse.
As the awards ceremony commenced, the room buzzed with anticipation as nominees waited to see if their hard work and dedication would be recognized. Presenters such as Michelle Cuevas, the Krewe of Salacia Queen of 2024, Sylvia Izlar of Maisie & Ellie Clothing Co., Mandy and Scott Anderson of Red Radio Productions South, and Mark Simmons, a noteworthy musician and writer, added prestige to the event as they, along with many noteworthy others, announced the deserving winners in each category.
Throughout the evening, guests indulged in delectable cuisine and libations, courtesy of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s impeccable catering services. From gourmet hors d’oeuvres to handcrafted cocktails, every culinary delight was expertly crafted to tantalize the taste buds and satisfy the senses.
