The Return of Castor Troy

I managed to catch CastorTroy live more than a few times back during their first era, at their CPR Fest performance, and at some venues that aren’t around anymore. Their jams like “Worthless,” “Pressure,” and “One Day,” became fan favorites, they’d sneak in a couple covers, and they always put on a hell of a fun show that kept people like me coming back for more, no matter the size of the stage they were on. You might say they’d rock your….. Face/Off. (OHH!)

They were surely one of the area’s standout bands during my earlier days in the coast’s music scene, and to hear some of their jams again at that first reunion show was definitely a vibe. But again, this reunion isn’t just a look back at what was.

CastorTroy debuted a new song at their second Hard Rock show, entitled “When I Close my Eyes.” The song combines parts they wrote during their first era with new arrangements and ideas, and serves as a sort of bridge from then to now. The band posted a teaser clip of the performance to their new Facebook page. 14 years is a long time to come up with ideas as well as grow as musicians, and according to the band, they have a ton of material to work with and are stoked to be putting new music together right off the bat.

“We’re really excited about it,” Dunnaway said of the debut. “This song for me is probably my favorite song we’ve ever written- we really feel good about the song. So hopefully we’ll have it out before the end of the year.”

While nothing official is set yet, CastorTroy intends to continue writing for a larger EP or album release. One thing that is for sure: they’re walking their own path, at their own pace. Instead of stressing too hard on the scheduling and administrative side of things, the band is prioritizing having fun making music and just enjoying the process as it goes. Stepping back into the game suddenly after such a long hiatus has CastorTroy as a band in a radically changed music landscape from that of the early 2000’s, but the members are excited to take on the challenge of resurrecting the band with new social, streaming and networking tools that weren’t available to them during their first run. They’ve started building an all new online presence, are working up a show schedule that suits them, and are looking forward to meeting some new faces along the way.
