The Shed BBQ has long been known as a Gulf Coast staple, a place where people come for bold flavors, laid back energy, and a sense of community you can feel the moment you step onto the property. Now, they are adding something new that is quickly becoming a reason of its own to visit.
Tucked just out back along the water sits The Roasted Oyster, the newest addition to The Shed. Set beside the boat launch and overlooking Fort Bayou, this space creates a completely unique experience from what people may expect when they first think of barbecue. It is open, coastal, and designed for slowing down and staying awhile.
The Roasted Oyster is exactly what it sounds like, but the experience goes beyond the name. Oysters are sourced from across the country while still supporting Gulf waters, offering both variety and a connection to the region. Served roasted, they bring a warm and flavorful option that feels right at home on the water. For those who may not usually reach for raw oysters, this is an easy introduction that feels approachable and satisfying.
Alongside the oysters, crawfish are brought in from a Louisiana farmer known for producing large, high-quality catches. And I will say this firsthand, when they brought them out, I had to do a double take. These were some of the biggest crawfish I have seen, the kind that make you pause for a second before you even dig in. It is all part of The Shed’s continued focus on quality, something they have built their reputation on as a three-time world champion barbecue destination.
While The Roasted Oyster brings something new, The Shed itself remains just steps away, serving up the barbecue that made it famous. Guests can easily move between the two, creating a mix of experiences in one visit. It is not about choosing one or the other. It is about having it all in one place.
What truly sets this addition apart is the setting. Located on Fort Bayou between mile markers 8 and 9, the property features a 500 foot pier, the largest in Jackson County. It stretches out over the water, offering space to fish, take in the view, or simply enjoy the coastal air. The location invites people to arrive however they choose. Boats, kayaks, and paddleboards are all welcome, and there is a small boat ramp available for a five dollar donation for those looking to launch and spend the day on the water.
When I visited, it was one of those easy coastal afternoons where you lose track of time without even trying. People were pulling up by boat, walking out on the pier, kids moving back and forth between the water and the tables. It did not feel rushed. It felt like somewhere you could stay awhile.
Live music adds to that atmosphere, with bands playing every Friday and Saturday evening from six to nine. As summer approaches, there are plans to expand live music to even more days throughout the week. Guests are encouraged to keep an eye on social media for special events, which continue to bring new energy to the space.
Just beyond the oyster bar and pier sits another part of the experience that makes The Shed stand out even more. The Cozy Rosy Campground offers a full staycation option for both locals and visitors. Spread across thirty acres with around one hundred sites, it includes cabins, tent rentals, and space for RVs. It creates an opportunity to turn a simple visit into an overnight escape without ever leaving the property.
The Shed encourages their loyal crowd, known as the Shedheads, to fully embrace the experience. Stay the night, bring the family, bring the dogs, and enjoy everything the space has to offer. Kids can run and play, families can gather around a fire, and days can be spent fishing, eating, and relaxing by the water. It captures a feeling that is deeply connected to the Gulf Coast lifestyle, where simple moments and shared experiences matter most.
The campground is available to book through platforms like VRBO and Airbnb, or by calling directly. It offers flexibility for travelers while also giving locals an easy option for a quick getaway that still feels close to home.
In addition to the everyday experience, The Shed also provides options for gatherings and celebrations. Private dining rooms with air conditioning offer a comfortable space for events, while both onsite and offsite catering make it easy to bring their signature flavors to any occasion. With graduation season approaching, it creates an ideal setting for families looking to celebrate together.

Conveniently located just off Interstate 10 at Exit 57, The Shed has always been easy to find. With the addition of The Roasted Oyster, it has become even more of a destination. It is no longer just a stop for barbecue. It is a place where people can spend an entire day or even a full weekend.
There is something about the way it all comes together. The water, the food, the music, and the atmosphere create a space that feels both relaxed and intentional. It reflects what the Gulf Coast does best, offering a mix of hospitality, flavor, and connection that keeps people coming back.
The Roasted Oyster is not just a new feature. It is an extension of what The Shed has always been about, bringing people together and giving them a place to enjoy the moment.
