Performing Live on the Coast
“This last month or two has been some of the best times I’ve had in my whole life, just being able to be out and play and hang out with everybody. It’s awesome,” said Tristan Alizé about his recent steady growth as a Gulf Coast musician.
Alizé is a coast musician not by birth, but by choice. The acoustic solo artist hails from rural Missouri, and it was the rich music scene we enjoy down here that played a big role in his deciding to make the coast his home.
“I kind of moved around a lot over the years,” he said, explaining that while there weren’t a lot of gig opportunities for him in his hometown, he had a strong musical upbringing in his family. Nearby relatives would frequently gather at their family property, jamming together for the holidays and special events. They even had a stage area at the ready that would host visiting players.
“It was always a really good time. We always had a lot of bluegrass music on the front porch.”
An extended trip to the coast introduced Tristan to a music scene that was welcoming and held some appealing opportunities.
“I couldn’t believe all the stuff that was happening. I had never been anywhere where there was so much music and so much activity and so many people that were… like me,” he said. “I kind of got scooped up by the people I met down here.”
And so, he stayed. Alizé quickly became a regular at music spots and open mic events around the Ocean Springs area, especially around the Juke Joint and their long running Sunday Night Open Jam, making friends and playing tunes with new people. Just since the last half of 2023 he has become a full on regular solo performer, booking and delivering all night shows at laid back venues around town, and popping up on event bills such as Frets for Pets.
