Blue Bayou Bar & Grill

The most beautiful drive from Louisiana to Alabama is Hwy 90 scenic beach route.  Leaving Ocean Springs and going to The Silver Slipper in Waveland is breath taking, from Ocean Springs-Biloxi bridge until the final destination.  It is so worthy of a coastal experience, chill drive, with an awesome experience upon arrival.  The Silver Slipper captures the coastal vibe, and, has always been my favorite drive for some of the most awesome coastal cuisine the coast has to offer.  Twenty years in existence, the high quality, no scrimping seafood indulgence still remains at the Blue Bayou.  An exquisite bar leads to a formal/casual dining room with a view.  The southeast windows let you catch the cloud sunset, while the west wall hosts an open kitchen concept.  I am always ecstatic when we feature the Blue Bayou, it is in my repertoire the epitome of a perfect night out!

The Supervisor David Bond was like a long-lost friend, hugs included, and seated us with a sunset view. Talor started us off with a tour of the menu, drinks, and some nice warm bread with garlic and sun-dried tomato infused olive oil, regular butter, and Smucker’s Strawberry infused butter.  Before we got into the ordering process, we were already friends with our dude Talor, who gave us excellent service, recommendations and guidance through our adventure. We met Chef d’cuisine Chad Johnson for more insight, and the over-all experience developed into a 10!

We began with Crab Swimmerets.  Move over blue crab claws!  If you remove the back legs (swimmers) very carefully, you get the most delectable white meat.  The best appetizer you can imagine crab fans, with butter, garlic, bayou seasoning and parmesan.  Mama’s Blue Crab Cake appetizer was loaded with lump blue crab as well, seasoned just right with house remoulade, and, a must try!  I’m also in love with the Classic Escargot en Croute, baked to perfection in bayou butter!  The Diver Scallops seared and served over a fresh sauteed spinach beurre blanc and citrus salad with radish, so amazing!  These starters are five star in a coast girl guide!

This being a Thursday night, not only did we get a view of the classic cars for their Thursday night rumbling the coast, we were also able to take advantage of the Edge menu available Wednesday through Saturday, 5-7.  For $35 you can take advantage of five of the top   entrees including salad, dessert and a glass of Berringer wine.  Stop, I know!  Cheli had a beautiful Wedge Salad loaded with bacon and blue cheese crumbles.  I had the House salad with mixed greens, pickled red onion, carrots, bacon crumbles and grape tomatoes.  We both ordered the house-made blue cheese dressing, but I kicked it up a notch and had a side of garlic-artichoke-parmesan dressing.  The mixture was celebrated by us both!

We savored the most perfectly seared 6 oz, Filet Mignon with garlic mash and steamed green beans, and I do mean perfect!  We are abashed by the perfection!  We added toppings of lump blue crab, sauteed mushrooms, and Bernaise sauce, all on the side, all wonderful, but, not necessary.   And, then we had the Twin Pork Ribeyes, wow!  Blackened then oven seared, I can’t even describe the amazingly best pork eve, except that it was unbelievably moist, with a brown mustard and honey sauce and veggies.  The menu for after 7pm includes several specialty steaks From Our Butcher including a “Cowboy Cut” 24 0z prime ribeye.  Entrees offer your favorites, with larger portions and more!  Shrimp Scampi, Bayou Seafood pasta, a Seafood Platter, and a Rack of Lamb.  All tempting, covering your hankerings.

Under the Edge special they have a Fresh Catch of the Day, which was Triple Tail served with crawfish tails with rice pilaf and Crystal Butter Sauce, I love a mild drum fish, but we opted for the Halibut with lump crab, a lemon beurre blanc and rice pilaf.  A very mild and dense slab of Halibut that was moist and flaky, totally scrumptious, while idolizing a fish we are not used to eating here.  They offer Eggplant Parmesan over Angel Hair pasta.  We opted for the Chicken Piccata over fettuccini.  The Chicken Piccata was incredibly delicious with thin slivers of breaded and fried chicken over fettuccini with a lemon beurre blanc and capers, and, let me emphasize the incredible part!  They are adding the Veal Piccata version soon to the menu.  While they are tweaking a new menu, including split King Crab legs, your favorites will still be available.  Oysters on the half shell as well Chargrilled are offered along with Gumbo and specialty salads.

I can not express how much this restaurant has and still does meet my expectations, and we haven’t even begun with the desserts.  The Carrot Cake was so moist with the amazing hints of cinnamon and nutmeg and walnuts with a butter cream icing, I always feel that I can justify a dessert that includes healthy provisions, lol!  They no longer display table-side bananas foster, but they offer bananas foster cheesecake, yes!  The Tiramisu is a version of lady fingers soaked in Amaretto versus coffee, and that’s a delicacy I can enjoy!  I enjoyed the Beringer Moscato while dining and Cheli had a Millionaires coffee with desserts.

There it is, my personal invitation to come on down to the Silver Slipper!!!
