Boats are decorated fully with fanciful lights on the port side only, ensuring a black background when the boats turn around so as not to distract from the continued display of the boats behind them. This also helps to ensure that the following fireworks display, a spectacular event with fireworks that shoot up to a thousand feet into the air and explode with just about as much reach in a display of pure spectacle and dlight, can be seen without distraction. The fireworks display will happen when the boats finally come to a stop in front of the Biloxi Yacht Club.
The day before the event, Dec. 6th, is also a wonderful time as families are invited to bring their children to downtown Biloxi where they can take part in a hayride to meet Santa Claus.
“We take first to third graders, put them in hay wagons and parade them down a little parade ride that ends up at the town green and Santa Clause is there to listen to what they want for Christmas.” Says Rusty. “We do hot chocolate and cookies for the kids, and Kelly’s Steps Dance Team does a Christmas performance to about 80 kids. It lasts about 45 minutes, and when Santa Claus gets there he turns the lights on of the decorated town green.”
This years event promises to be the biggest and best yet, and families are invited to view the parade entirely for free from the beachfront or away from it across Highway 90. Social Media engagement has been a new factor in the parade, bringing it to the attention of even more families and friends.
