“To have had this vision in 2017 after going to a Muses parade, other ladies liking this idea as well and coming together as a group, it makes me so proud.” Says Strumila. “I get chills just thinking about what these ladies have done and helped to accomplish.”
One of the signature traditions that set the Krewe of Salacia apart is their famous decorated bikini tops, crafted with creativity and flair by the talented members of the krewe. This year there are over 700 tops created by the krewe members. These intricately adorned bikini tops have become iconic symbols of the Krewe of Salacia’s exuberant spirit, catching the eyes and hearts of parade-goers along the route. The dedication and artistry displayed in these creations reflect the unity and camaraderie among the krewe members.
“I love seeing everyone so enthusiastic, and seeing men who I wouldn’t suspect want a bikini top wanting one.” Says this year’s Queen, Michelle Hayes-Cuevas. “It’s such an honor to be able to do this. Last year was my first year and coming in to the second year it’s bigger and better than ever!”
