Vinyl Minds: Breaking Onto the Scene

Vinyl Minds is a rock trio based in Ocean Springs consisting of drummer David Gaethe, bassist Dacota Teddy Berkowitz, and singer/guitarist Devon Behr. With some years under their belts making music with projects including Kronite, 3HG and Rock U 2 School of Performing Arts, the trio brings together a solid helping of pro experience into this new project… a project which is strictly original.

We first caught Vinyl Minds as they made their live debut in June at a Red Radio Productions talent night at Trax Bar. Their pop up appearance included the first performances of the songs “Sober,” “Just Words,” and “Flowers, Pain & Jealousy,” and marked singer Devon’s first official set with a performing band.

“I’ve been writing for quite a while now,” said Devon, who was initially self taught at recording and playing multiple instruments, and is now in college for audio engineering. He had spent years honing his skills as a musician and working up a catalog of material for a solo project, but his meeting and initial jam sessions with seasoned performers Dacota and David produced something too good to let go.

“I always wanted to be a part of a group and actually go out and perform, to show people in a live setting, face to face, what we’re capable of creating,” he said. “It’s been a very rewarding process, it’s been a lot of fun. It’s definitely opened me up quite a bit, playing on stage and writing with people and practicing with people… good times, good people, good music.”

“We had so much enjoyment of just creating music together and jamming together,” David added of those first couple of sessions,  “…and here we are.”
