Black Stone Cherry: Live at Beau Rivage – Friday May 23rd

Black Stone Cherry are a band that finds inspiration on the road and wherever it may come from, and their live shows often change as they go with the flow of things.

“We’re one of the probably least prepared to tour bands on the planet,” Robertson chuckled “We’re a band that just kind of goes and plays really. The most rehearsal we do is probably soundcheck on the first day of shows- we run over the stuff we haven’t played in a while. The biggest part is getting everything ready at home.” The easy going approach and embracing life on the road has helped the band remain creative over time.

“We keep a guitar and a bass on the bus and a microphone when we’re out. You never know when inspiration is gonna strike for a song. It could literally be riding down the road or on a day off in a mall parking lot, or at soundcheck. We’ve even come up with song ideas right after a show, a riff somebody hits during a jamming section of a song… songs come out at any time.”

“I really look forward to when we do new stuff live, ’cause I really like figuring out how the crowd reacts,” he continued.  “The minute you start introducing new material it’s kind of the unknown, it’s kind of like walking in the woods without a flashlight for the first time. You gotta feel your way through the darkness, and to me that’s really exciting.”

Black Stone Cherry’s history of visiting the coast reaches all the way back to their first album tour in the post-Katrina days and since. Local fans can catch the band doing what they do best this month with a bit of something new kicked in.

“We love the gulf coast,” Robertson said. “We look forward to coming down there and gettin’ some of that good humidity and some rock and roll.”
