For drinks my beloved stuck to water, but I was pleased to see an exciting selection of local craft beers on draft. I chose a Crowd Control IPA from Southern Prohibition Brewing, a milder and more approachable malt backed take on an IPA, which came to me cold and delicious. We took a moment to converse and enjoy our surroundings. In a word, I would call the decor of Castaways cozy. It is quite easy to relax and settle in to your dining experience, and sharing that with a loved one is all the more special.
Our Gator Bites arrived to the table quickly, but they were hot and fresh. Inside of a crunchy, golden brown exterior is soft and tender alligator meat flavored with just the right amount of spice to titillate the taste buds. Our lovely waitress took our entree order as we received our appetizer. My wife’s heart was set on the Southern Style Fish, and mine the ribeye. Our orders taken, we sat back once again and enjoyed the atmosphere.

There is a friendly but unobtrusive banter among the staff, which was fun to take in as I enjoyed my beer. It was evident that these people enjoyed both their jobs and each other’s company, and it was admittedly pleasant to give indulgence to when not conversing with my beautiful wife. It was not long before my drink required a refill, and that need was promptly met. Soon, our entrees appeared.
