Contraflow: A Tribute to Arena Rock

A Tribute to Arena Rock

Van Halen, Foreigner, Led Zeppelin, KISS, Motley Crue, Journey, Ozzy Osbourne… If names like these appear on the soundtrack to your life, Contraflow has something in the bag for you.

Contraflow comes from the New Orleans area and delivers huge hit songs from classic era rock and heavy metal bands of the seventies and eighties, or what they like to call “Good Big Rock.” They are those songs with the dramatic guitar solos, fist pumping rhythms, and soaring vocal melodies that are still playing on our radios, playlists and in our heads decades on from their initial releases, and helped define and shape rock as we know it today. “All the good bands from that era… a lot of guitars, a lot of good vocals…” said lead vocalist Derrick LeFevre. “We don’t really do alternative music, we don’t play any dance music, it’s just straight up rock.”

The band first started in 2006 as the entire region was rebounding from Hurricane Katrina (nod to the “contraflow” mass evacuation plan and moving against the regular flow of things.) It seemed at the time that there just weren’t enough bands in the Metairie / New Orleans area playing the styles of rock that the band has since become known for, and they made it their mission to fill that void. LeFevre joined up in 2012, and the band has carried the flag of classic arena rock to crowds of music lovers around the southern coastal region since.
