Hang Loose at Hangout

Day two saw some storms and slight delays, but nothing stopped the music and every artist still got to perform. If day one was all about the summer vibes, day two brought the intensity.

Chappell Roan is one of the most dynamic performers we’ve seen, and her flashy and fun stage sets and outfits draw you in so her powerhouse voice and unapologetic lyrics can earworm into your brain. You’ll be humming “Good Luck Babe” everywhere you go after seeing her perform it live once. Cage the Elephant’s thrashing antics always bring the pressure, and those boys have proved more than once they’re not afraid to jump into the crowd. Koe Wetzel was a dream with melodic runs and intense summer pulses. Qveen Herby and her array of stunning wigs set the bar high, mixing her summer anthem “Sugar Daddy” with the remix from the crowd. Odesza blew the entire roof off with an EDM spectacular display that was so cool it should have come with a warning. You would still be seeing stars, long after the lights were done.

Day three brought us through with Little Stranger, All Time Low, and one of my favorite new bands, Dexter And The Moon Rocks(if you’re into kinda grungy, kinda gothic cowboy rock, they are awesome). Doechii’s lyricism slipped through the crowd with a liquidity that left heads bobbing and shoulders shaking, but it was Nelly who was making it HOT IN HERE.

There was not a straightened knee to be seen on that beach with the King of St. Louis took the stage. Nelly’s iconic sound encapsulates that nostalgia that brings back hot nights at the club, bodies shaking, and the energy was unmatched by anything else we’d felt.

Musically, this was one of the most diverse lineups I’d seen come out of Hangout, and I hope that it stays that way. It was incredible to discover new talent, see favorites, and have a perfect start to summer on the beach.

See you next year!
