Huck’s Cove: A Little Slice of Heaven

For my drink I went with another recommendation, the Miami Vice. This is but one of a long selection of signature drinks the bar is ready to prepare at any moment, and it was delightful. Something along the lines of a strawberry pina colada, sweet, wonderfully creamy, and deliciously intoxicating. The bar also serves a variety of beer, including drinks from Abita brewery in stock. With such a wide selection it’s no wonder that people love Huck’s.

“I love my customers.” Says Hook. “They’re very nice. I’ve been here a long time and it’s just my home away from home. We get a fifty-fifty split of return customers and traveling customers. People come from all over the world, and come by and visit us. On the weekends the dock stays boat to boat to boat.”

The dock area of Huck’s Cove is exceptionally well shaded, and is perfect for having a nice lazy sit while trying to catch sight of a crane or perhaps the jump of a mullet. For many, including those who work there, this is the best part of the property.

“I love working at Huck’s because of the water,” commented Jasmine, a server.

The walls of Huck’s Cove are charmingly adorned with interesting items, conversation pieces occasionally brought in by guests. Skis, buoys from many different boats, and license plates from all over the nation line the walls. Another interesting feature that makes the visit all the more special is a marked line denoting how high the waters of Hurricane Katrina came up inside of the building. As I sipped my second cocktail, a blueberry lemonade concoction that I can not recommend highly enough, I sat and thought poignantly about how the very area I sat in would have been fully submerged. This is a location with a strong and storied history, and if you sit a while you may just get the pleasure of discussing it with the knowledgeable staff.

All in all I left with my belly full, my thirst satiated, and my mood considerably altered for the better. I recommend going on the weekend, when they offer their half and half basket which comes half full of your choice of fish and half full of shrimp. Whether you are from town, or in town visiting, if you’ve never been to Huck’s Cove in Gautier you are simply missing out.
There’s no two ways about it.
